Preface.

AND.

Lauda Wiszeńskie previous volumes. Lauda Wiszeńskie of this 23rd volume from the period of the fall of the sejmiks.

We conclude with this volume, from the 23rd order, "Municipal and Land Acts", the sections of the Wisze sejmik laudas, i.e. the general of the Ruthenian Voivodeship. In volume 20 (I) the Wisze laudas from 1572-1648 were published; in volume 21 (II) laudas from 1648-1673; 22 (III) lauda from 1673-1732, and in this fourth and final volume, the Wiszeńskie lauda from 1731-1772.

If we take a look at the content of these hundreds of acts explaining the sejmik life in Wisznia, the main sejmik of the entire large voivodeship (apart from the Wisznia sejmik, almost simultaneous sejmiks were held in Halych and Chełm), we must note, based on the number of acts, the growth of the sejmik life from the first period. The growth of sejmiks in the second period is greater than in the first period, an inordinate expansion is observed in the third period, and a significant decline in the life of sejmiks in the last, fourth period. Thus, in the first period there are 231 acts, including 46 lauds with 37 instructions for deputies, i.e. 83 numbers, constituting almost a third of all the acts in the volume, while in the second period we have 130 lauds, which, together with 29 parliamentary instructions, constitute 159 numbers, i.e. half of all the acts in this volume, which number 230. In the third period, out of 296 numbers, we count 122 laudes and 36 instructions, a total of 158 numbers; assuming that all other issues are directly correspondence of the sejmik or acts most closely connected with the sejmik lauds, we will come to the conclusion about the extraordinary development of sejmik lauds, because only a dozen or so issues come from committees emerging from the sejmiks, called treasury commissions, i.e. boni ordinis, all others are actually sejmik Iauds. The number of these in this final volume of the Wiszeńskis is negligible, because the main framework of the acts are not laudas, but resolutions of the boni ordinis commission. Out of 261 issues of this volume, 74 issues are resolutions of the boni ordinis commissions, which means that more than a third part, i.e. 3-5 acts, do not contain lauda, but resolutions of these boni ordinis commissions. These are resolutions of the treasury commission issued by the local assembly regarding land collections: tenement and land collection. Since there are four confederations in this period, there are 30 acts in each of them, and in 1764 the Wisze sejmik was divided into three sejmiks: Lviv, Przemyśl and Sanok, therefore we have a scant number of the actual Wisze acts and only with the Iaudas of the Lviv, Przemyśl and Sanok lands the number of lauds is more significant - and from their total number one can have a more accurate idea. about the complete disintegration and fall of the Wisze sejmiks. Already from the sheer number of land resolutions, the lands of Wów, Żydaczów, Sanok and Przemyśl, the disintegration of General Wiseń-

XVI Preface the formerly powerful state into small parts, and from the content of the resolutions, the total collapse of the sejmik's independence and the position of a land self-government body rather than a body of guides of the Council and the authorities of its managers.

The lauds contained in this volume, like all the materials of the studies, illustrate primarily the sejmik system in the Ruthenian voivodeship in the period of decline of the sejmik life and at the same time the slow transformation of the institution, which was originally of such importance in the state, into a body of land self-government, resembling only a small part of the old independent sejmiks. This body ultimately implements Sejm decisions, constituting, as it were, the executive body of the Sejm.
