They do not forget the sejmik and the merits of especially the blood brothers of the nobility, such as Krzysztof Leśniewski, a former Ulanite soldier, and the Górski stolnik of Halicz. They will also mention Mr. Żołędzia's bloody merits and the prison sentence he undertook in Turcze. ^^), Mr. son of the knight Stanisław, Mr. Mikołaj Janicki, who "does not get off his horse, he serves on two expeditions at his own expense" 16), They applaud the crown guard who, at his own expense, sent 800 men to the Cossack expedition 17), Bobowski and Róźniatowski, heroes from near Chocim I8j, the military hero Samborski, Mr. Grochowski from Smolensk 19), Rafał Grochowski, chamberlain of the Crown, who served with glory for many years in Moscow and in other wars 20). And sympathy for the fate of these heroes, or pity for the misfortune into which they fell and plunged their family, is often clearly expressed in lauds. And so they mention Andrzej Zborowski, who shed his blood in the war with Karol Suilermanski and suffered seven years in prison 21), about Ludzicki, whose everything was destroyed by the Tatars, and when he was at war, they took his wife and children into slavery 22); about Krzysztof Grochowski, whose wife was taken captive by paganism in 1624

with six children, about Prochnicki, one of whose sons died in prison and the other one is suffering i), about Marcin Skurgiewski, who distinguished himself on many war expeditions, and who has to buy his wife out of prison 2), about Samuel Dunkowski, who never missed a war and now is in captivity after the Wallachian pogrom 3). ^they will also forget about the need of the famous borderland soldier Wrzeszcz, "who died with immortal glory on this bed of honesty, in the need of Chocim" 4)

Already these examples of the nobility's intercession show how difficult and often thankless the knight's bread was. The lauds will also include even more outstanding examples of the hard fate of the knight's profession, such as cases of disability suffered during the war by Wojciech Krępski, Samuel Drozdowski, Aleksander Biatobrzyski, Andrzej Staną 5). The assembly members also sympathize with those who lost their fortunes during or because of the war and fondly remember Piotrowski's bloody achievements and imprisonment, which he suffered for several years and is now in ultimate poverty. Elsewhere, we read among the petitions about Piotr Sielecki on Cecora, taken prisoner, who was in the galleys for twenty or several years and now asks for... dressing 7). Even military commander Żydaczowski Jan Narajowski, who grew old in the service of His Majesty the King. Mcci and now he has lost almost everything 8), and this one deserves care.

All these are dates that remind the historian of the province of the manifestations of love for the homeland on the part of its defenders, their services often unrewarded by their contemporaries, thanks to which the Republic of Lithuania was given the honorable name of the bulwark of Europe. There is no shortage of indications in the lauds that not only the bloody merits of the nobility but also of other classes were highly valued at the sejmiks, and here we will only mention the war bravery of Gwidyński 9) or Walenty Kąkolski, who demonstrated his bravery in the eyes of the hetman and the troops and for whom they were asked to be included in the album eqtiesłns ordinis 10).
