However, the restrictions on the rights of those endowed with indigenation or ennoblement, the former up to 10 years of age, the latter up to 20 years of age, incapable of holding starosts and offices, were not aimed at the good of the government, but rather were a symptom of the fight against the king, who could win these novices into his camp with a donation or office. And so the good of the rzpta was certainly on the radar when, in 1660, it was demanded that foreigners admitted to the indigenacy should not purchase the goods of the rzpta sine consensu generali. The local council was also motivated by the general good when it demanded in 1666 that the new nobility should not engage in trade in Lviv, contrary to the privileges of the nobility and to the detriment of the city, without paying tolls or bearing city burdens5). It is also impossible to deny the validity of the demand, repeated at that time, that the Scarlabellis, in accordance with the constitution of 1626, should pay future taxes at the same time; but if it was added that those who in primo gradu dignitates et praerogativas constitute the nobility should receive taxes in decuplo6), it should be noted that such a demand was an affront to the notion of an obligation to tax that was equal for all, but also honored for the first time with some prerogative exclusively serving the nobility. However, if we can also conclude here that the aim was to increase the income of the government from the newly endowed with a certain starosty, on the other hand we can see quite clearly that the royal power was paralyzed in this field as well. Namely, there was a strong objection to granting the prerogatives of nobility to those newly ennobled or newly admitted to the indigency. Thus, in 1666, it was demanded that Deboi, who, being an extraneus, had recently received the indigenat, should be denied the Sanok castellany granted by the king 7). Two years later, the assembly rebukes the custom of newly ennobled people asking for offices and decides that Hadziewicz, the appointed hunter, should lose his office, and Jerzy Grochowski will remain the hunter. It is true that the sejmik is covered with the constitution, which removes the new nobility from offices and prerogatives until the third generation8), but when we take into account the fight of the nobility against the king, we must also see that the blade of the resolutions was directed against the royal power and in favor of the sejmik. However, it is right to distinguish among the new nobility those who acquired nobility by blood from those who obtained it in another way. The method of obtaining nobility through purchase was particularly condemned and demanded

xxvn those who, having bought nobility and begged Bob for offices, still dared to plead for the good of the rzptej, per primlegiu et tztru scitum reipublicae, ut reponant prwilegia J). Therefore, I understood the request of the assembly in 1672. 2) that the new nobility, which came non merilorio sangmne to the pregative of the nobility, should provide a soldier for the current war, depending on the number of goods... However, it was recommended to help those who deserve it by blood to become nobility. Therefore, in 1685, the Sejm decided that the newly ennobled should provide 3 horses for 3 companies, while those who obtained them with their blood were not to be held accountable for this.

The sejmik's efforts to take ennoblement into its own hands are victorious at the sejm, as can be seen from the sejm resolutions from the third period, but still very close to the period covered by this volume. In fact, the Sejm decided in 1676 that from then on, no one would be admitted to the nobility or the indigenate unless those applying for it had spoken about it at the pre-Sejm assembly and had not had the authority of landed deputies behind them. It was also decided that those from the new nobility who, despite the order of the king and the hetman, entered in volumen legum, should be left in mspenso, and those who were recommended by the king and the hetman should be sent by the king to the registry to the sejmiks.

And in the example of ennoblement, we see the increase in the power of the sejmik, its importance and its victory in the fight against the king and the central authorities. Evolution, therefore, did not take place without struggles; Although the assembly is not revolutionary anywhere, it nevertheless fights for its privileges and development of the economy with the central authorities and even with the king.
