in this edition under No. *III. But this is not the end; Ascertaining the authenticity of this document, we go one step further and (contrary to Zubrzycki's comments regarding the city of Lviv, p. 77, and especially to Hażdeu's comments in his Istoria critica I. 1. §. 3, n. 1) we know that it was issued not in 1409 and not in Argishiv, but in Lviv in 1390. And we base this seemingly bold assumption on the fact that political relations between Poland and the Multan and Wallachian lands in the years 1390-1391 were much closer than ever before or since during the reign of Prince Mircza. The state advantage of the Luxembourgers at that time was so unfavorable for Władysław Jagiełło's political prospects that the alliance with the princes of Moldavia and Multan (Wallachia), threatened by the same Luxembourgers and at the same time also by the Ottomans, who were rising to a terrifying advantage, was a support for him, although not absolutely necessary, but at least desirable and almost natural. And among the documents relating to this very matter, namely to a more detailed definition of the political relations between Poland and the Multans, we find a diploma in the codex. Dogiela 1. 598, one that was issued by Prince Mircze in 1390, and as far as can be concluded from the whole sequence of events (Ob. Engla Gesch. d. ungr. Reiches etc. IV. 1. 157) during his personal presence in Lublin. So what would be strange if this prince, while passing through Lviv, at the request of the hospitable inhabitants of the city, had this Slavic-Romanian document issued for them by one of the Wallachian writers who accompanied him? And even if the assumption about the location was not entirely convincing (because Lviv merchants could find Prince Mircze in Lublin, or even in any other city), the date itself seems to be beyond any doubt. In any case, the document in question should be referred to the first half of the reign of Prince Mircza, i.e. to the end of the 14th century. This is indicated, as we said above in note 3, by the form of the letters itself, and also by the fact that the terms regarding goods that can be sold or bought in the Multan countries, as well as the terms regarding the toll charged by Lviv merchants, etc. payable in Targowica, are not as precise as in the above-mentioned document of the same prince from 1409. It seems that these inaccuracies could not have occurred if this document was simply a duplicate of the document from 1409.

In Suceava 1407
Prince Alecsander of Moldavia, surnamed Dobry, grants merchants from Lviv, as well as merchants from the Russian and Podolia lands, the right to trade in all his lands for reduced tolls. he also allows them to transport silver and Hungarian martens through his countries, provided, however, that they are always brought to the attention of the customs authorities and that the hospodar may purchase as much of these articles as he pleases; finally, he allows them to have their own house in Suceava, with the condition that they do not keep a tavern or a butcher's shop in that house, nor sell their own bread,
