insistently, and meanwhile he, the archbishop, is in great need of monastery abbots to be present on spiritual boards and for other diocesan assignments, and therefore asked to be transferred to his department, among other things, the Samara monastery, registered with the stauropegial Mezhigorsky.
The Synod wished to know the opinion of the Mezhigorsky monastery itself on this issue. Biyovo-Mezhigorsky Monastery, as one would expect, in the assumption of Rev. Evgenia saw an encroachment on the last remnants of his property, and therefore strongly protested. Archimandrite Gabriel and his brethren reported on June 15, 1778 to St. synod, among other things, the following:
"The Kyiv-Mezhyhiria Monastery, after the destruction of the Zaporozhian Sich, from which it received what was necessary for its maintenance, is already entirely deprived of it and has lost it, being content only with the lands remaining at the Samara Monastery, for which... it requested in various years from the former Zaporozhian Host sufficient arable and haymaking lands with lakes, established in them a sufficient number of horned cattle, horses, and sheep, buying some for money, and requesting others from the Cossacks, multiplied the apiaries for bees, built mills anew, and requested others from the Cossacks,—and settled at that monastery, with the permission of the Zaporozhian Host, a sloboda of 50 households. And whatever buildings there are at that monastery and inside it, all of it originated from the Kyiv Mezhyhiria Monastery with the hope of having from this economy in future times an acquisition for the maintenance of this Mezhyhiria Monastery. For the management of which economy, a superior with monastics is detached from this monastery, and from that economy this Mezhyhiria Monastery annually receives wax, honey, cheese and cow's butter, sheep's wool, hides, broadcloth, and horses for riding, and from the same economy salt and fish are delivered by purchase for money. For the sake of which benefit this Mezhyhiria Monastery, after the destruction of the Zaporozhian Sich, asked His Serene Highness (...all titles) Prince Hryhorii Oleksandrovych Potemkin for the permanent confirmation of all those lands and households to the Mezhyhiria and Samara Monasteries. And therefore, according to the warrant of His Serene Highness... through surveyors, this land was allocated and demarcated in size, of which land there amounted to 15,000 desiatinas, of which land the boundary posts are now also confirmed, all of which cost the monastery considerable labor and expense."
TH CENTURY.
If the head of the Samara monastery will be obliged by the diocese to carry out other tasks assigned to him, then in the economy a complete omission may follow and instead of the expected benefit, an irreparable loss will be caused... For this reason, for the sake of St. right "We humbly ask the Synod... to leave the above-mentioned Samara monastery under the control of the Mezhigorsky monastery in everything."
A cloud passed over this rabbi. The Holy Synod notified Rev. Evgeniy that the Samara monastery cannot be removed from the department of the Kyiv-Mezhigorsk monastery.
