Looking back, ten years or more, when combining various chronicle notes from one year into one, the chronicler adds his own memories to this material and gives something complete, complete. In the concise, laconic stories of the Novgorod chronicles, one can notice the ability to accurately outline the events of many months, and sometimes even years. So, for example, under the year 6675 (Novgorod. 1st, 14 pages) we encounter several disparate news. Some of them are brief, and in all likelihood, copied from weather, as if calendar, notes. We find them at the beginning and at the end of the article, marked with an annual figure. At the beginning we read: "Seds Mstislav Izyaslavitsa Kleve on the table. That same spring, lay the Sadko Sytinitsa Church of the Holy Martyr Boris and Gleb, under Prince Svyatoslav Rostislavitsa, under Archbishop Elijah." At the end: “That same winter, Mstislav went to the Polovtsy... The servant of God Anna, Abbess of Saint Barbara, reposed and put Maremyan in her place.” But the middle is dedicated to the story about the strife between Novgorod and Prince Svyatoslav Rostislavich. This story covers the event from beginning to end. The strife began in the summer and from Semyonov Day (September 1) until Easter, the Novgorodians sat without a prince. Obviously, the story of the chronicle was written not before Easter, that is, it was written at the command of Roman Mstislavich, who sat down on the table on April 14, the second week after Easter, therefore, after the onset of the new March year - and the chronicler postponed talking about this until the next section: until the year 6676. Delving into the grouping of events described under the year 6675, we see that the chronicler had in mind their sequence in time. At the beginning of the March year, shortly after the death of his uncle Rostislav, who died on March 21, Mstislav Izyaslavich (great-grandson of Monomakh) was crowned prince in Kyiv. In the spring, the foundation stone for the Church of Boris and Gleb in Novgorod was completed. In the summer, the people of Novgorod were notified of the arrival of Metropolitan Constantine in Kyiv, and then soon Svyatoslav went to Luke, from which the strife began, which continued until Semenov’s day. In winter, towards the end of the year, the Kyiv prince, as Novgorodets heard, won a victory over the Polovtsians, and in Novgorod a change in the abbess was noted in the monastery of St. Barbarians.
