3. M, 1009. — [OCR: eee a eta chechteya 18] In 1736, a soldier of the Life Guards Semenovsky Regiment, Petro Zezevitov, with his brother, the landowner of the Pereiaslav province Fedir Zezevitov, ordered their peasants, Petro Medynda and Kuzma Petrov, to kill the monastery peasant Lohan Trofimov: the order was carried out, and Lohan was strangled to death. The voivode in Pereiaslav at that very time was Major Zuiev. To prolong the investigation, Fedir Zezevitov gave him and the secretaries 50 rubles. But Zuiev, one must think, was a compassionate man: he proposed to the defendant to give him another 250 rubles — so that he would be acquitted in the case. The criminal, as a deposit, gave the voivode another 50 rubles. At the same time, the secretary Vasyl Fedorov took 50 rubles, and another secretary, Ivan Borysov, 100 rubles. But Fedir Zezevitov wanted to guarantee himself as much as possible: the executioner in Pereiaslav at that time was Mykola Sylny — and Zezevitov entered into a deal with him too: he instigates the executioner Sylny during the interrogation to kill his brother, Petro Zezevitov, with a whip. Sylny asks for 10 rubles for this matter, and the criminal wants to send this money through a certain priest, Oleksii Fedorov. 5. Take another case, highly characteristic: in 1763, in the Kaluga provincial chancellery, there was a contract bidding for the supply of forage and provisions to the treasury. Together with others, the Kaluga merchant Churikov also appeared at the bidding: he was smarter and more experienced than his competitors. While they wanted to win by offering the minimum, Churikov entered into bargaining with the voivode's chancellery. The provincial voivode, titular councilor Miasoiedov, initially asked the contractor for 4,000 rubles, but settled for 500 rubles; the voivode's comrade, collegiate assessor Yurov, having initially demanded 400 rubles, settled for 300 rubles, the secretary — lowered from 900 to 150, and the clerk was not forgotten either, receiving 50 rubles with a promise of more."
