In the lateral view the frontal sinuses project considerably, and aboie them the frontal outline, though low, is evenly rounded In the vertical region the outline is evenly arched, and the occiput is somewhat projecting. The mastoid are laigely developed, and the greatest width of the skull a at the base of the mastoid processes.
In the occipital view, the skull is compressed on the sides, but not a all pyramidal.
The cranium is; —
7"-r long, 5"-4 broad, and 5"'4 high — giving a Cephalic Index...... 760
Altitudinal....... 760
The broken condition prevents the measuring of the cubic conienis, but on the whole the skull is of rather small size for a male, and does not convey the impression of its having belonged to a highly civilised race, but rather the reverse. It does not appear to exhibit any Mongolian or Tatu characters.

The vine is found in Transcaucasia at an altitude of 3,000 feet above the sea, growing in remote and inaccessible places, where it is difficult to suppose that it was planted by man. The grape constitutes one of the chief aliments of the natives, especially of the Mussulmans, who enjoy it with their Uhourekeby, ' bread '; and wine is consumed by the Christians who find it at all the doukatms, where theii simple wants are saiisfiei The culture of the vine is the favourite pursuit of the various populations, the plant growing best in Ae misty parts of Mingrelia, ItnenUa, and Gouria. It spreads from the southern slopes of the great range over ilic rich valley of Kakhety, towards the governments of Elyzaretopol, Erivan, and Bakcu, reaching to the shores of the Caspian, where it is of small growth and creeps on the ground.
