NRINTSEVI ISLANDS, Nikomyadtya, BRUSSA, ODIMIT, DARDANELLES, TROY.

Early in the morning I went to Kirlangich with my valet. I also took with me a hired servant, old Francesco’s translator. The weather was beautiful, the sea was completely calm. How beautiful Constantinople is from the sea! Having reached the mouth of the Boshor, where I had walked along the banks so many times, I thought with involuntary sadness that this was the last time I would see this charming picture. Sorry Beglerbeys1y palace ()! Pro- (°) Begler Palace, on the Aztek coast of the Bosphorus, the beloved residence of the Sultan.

RI sti Buyuk-Dere, with the famous plane trees of Baldwin! Forgive the lovely Hunyar-Skeles valley, where the Turks saw the orderly ranks of Nicoll’s victorious troops! The holiday, given in this valley by Gragom Orlov, before the return campaign of the Russians, serves as a subject for the Turks: they describe it as a miracle worthy of the ancient Khaligs:

I soon passed Scutari. The Princes' Islands were clearly indicated. PShoslb two hours and a half of sailing, I landed on the main one, Prinkipos. Two drume, Prota and Untigona, remained far to my right; but the fourth, Khalkis, was very close. The town of Prinkinos is located on the eastern side of the island of the same name. It is located along the coast. Its inhabitants are mostly Greeks, sailors and farmers. There are up to three thousand of them here. The coast of Azsh is very visible: it is about seven miles away, no more, and ships at all times of the year find shelter in this narrow strait, especially when they become 20 fathoms from Khalkis or Prinkipos. The ships moor to the embankment itself. There are only nine Prince's Islands; of which four are large and five are small. At noon from Prinkipos there is a small island called Kroliy; to the west are two small ones: Oksgya and Plata; two more unnamed: these are just dvf stone cliffs.

Prinkinos, the largest and most fertile of the nine islands, must have been made volcanically, because the whole is composed of quartz and granite, completely decomposed and spun into great change. The soil of the earth is elevated, uneven and mountainous, everywhere® shows that the underground fire was at work: it is dry and barren at the heights, reddish, but quite fat in the low areas, especially at noon from the city. Between the plants I planted: Aleppo pine, kad (a genus of juniper), a lot of fragrant herbs, cisterns, etc. On this island there is some wheat, barley, peas, beans, Turkish and plain; They contain grapes, but do not make wine from them, because it is profitable to sell them in clusters in the markets of Constantinople. Figs here are amazingly tasty: the fruit is green on the outside, but bright red on the inside, juicy and sweet. Prinkipos often served as a place of exile for Greek Princes. Here was also an exile and even more famous: this is Irina, the wife of Leo Porphyrogenitus. She was born in Aepny, and reached the throne not by the nobility of her family, but by beauty and intelligence; but she knew no limits to her ambition, and after the death of her husband, she dishonored herself with all sorts of misdeeds. One of her close associates, Nikizor, overthrew the unworthy widow of the Emperor from the throne, exiled her here and ordered her to be imprisoned in a monastery, which she herself had built.
