West Ham want Eddie Nketiah on short-term loan

West Ham have expressed interest in a short-term loan for Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah, according to 90min.

The Hammers want to strengthen the department before the January transfer window closes on Monday, but they are not the only ones fond of the 21-year-old England international.

Crystal Palace also want Nketiah on loan for the rest of the campaign, but Newcastle United have opened talks with Arsenal over a permanent move.

No chance?

The youngster is out of contract at the end of the season and isn’t considering signing an extension at the Emirates Stadium with limited opportunities being the reason for his wish to leave.

West Ham have always been linked with Nketiah, and with David Moyes clamoring for cover to offer Michail Antonio stiff competition, a loan deal makes sense.

However, the fee for a temporary deal will be small compared to what Arsenal can get from Newcastle if they sell him, and that seems like the most likely and logical option for them.

Moreover, the Gunners and Hammers are in direct competition for the top four places, giving Mikel Arteta’s side reason not to do business with them.

Nketiah would like to join a team where he can play a lot of football, and that may not be guaranteed at the London stadium at the moment.

Nevertheless, Antonio could take some well-deserved rest in some games in the second half of the campaign, and the possibility of playing in Europe would tempt Nketiah.

However, a move may have to wait until summer from the looks of things.
